John Dougherty is an experienced Colorado commercial law litigator and appellate practitioner. He represents clients in various types
of complex commercial litigation including business disputes, employment and unfair competition issues, trade secret litigation construction, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, and business torts litigation. John‘s litigation experience includes 260 court hearings and at least 18 significant trials. He has obtained judgments close to $1Million and even successfully litigated small business cases against large plaintiffs.
He has in-depth experience in complex commercial trials, has first-chaired trial-type administrative proceedings before state administrative and federal agencies. He has taken and defended hundreds of depositions.
His primary focus at the firm includes: commercial litigation, Uniform Commercial Contracting (UCC), some real estate matters, construction litigation, commercial leases and commercial landlord and tenant issues, Business and Corporate Law disputes and contract litigation. As part of our employment defense for employers, Mr. Dougherty serves as litigation counsel.
John has experience in numerous aspects of Colorado business litigation practice, in addition to proceedings and briefing before the various courts. He frequently participates in cases during pre-trial litigation to write briefs on dispositive motions, advises trial counsel regarding preservation of error, researches complex legal issues, and consults with trial counsel regarding appellate issues. His direct litigation experience includes preparing for and participating in hearings on motions subject to appeal, briefing and preparing a variety of litigation proceedings; jury charge drafting and defending clients during jury charge conferences; pre- and post-trial motions for judgment as a matter of law.
As Colorado lawyer, John has also represented construction companies and subcontractors in contracts litigation cases. When it comes to Uniformed Commercial Code contracts and cases, clients benefit from his decades of experience.
